Flat, paint-ready walls before a single coat goes on.
Paint does not hide a bad wall, it points at it. A fresh coat over a bulged seam or a sanded-down patch just makes the shadow easier to see. We cut out and replace damaged sheetrock, fill holes and cracks, re-tape open seams, reset popped nails and screws, deal with the ceiling stain the roof leak left behind, then tape, float and sand it flat and match the existing texture so the repair disappears instead of announcing itself. Dust gets contained, the room gets cleaned up, and the wall is genuinely ready for paint, which is convenient, because we do that part too.

Coastal North Carolina is hard on a house. Salt air, humidity and shade grow mildew on siding and green on concrete, and paint laid over any of that fails inside a season. So we do both halves ourselves: soft-wash the surface down until it is actually clean, let it dry, then prep and paint it. No coordinating two outfits, no arguing about whose prep failed.
